About

Tabor Pediatric Physical Therapy is nestled in the Mount Tabor neighborhood of southeast Portland in a private home, giving the clinic space a cozy and non-threatening feel that children and families appreciate. TPPT’s mission is to provide excellent care to children and their families by establishing a collaborative relationship through compassion and play!

Dr. Emily Lighthipe

Dr. Emily Lighthipe received her doctorate in physical therapy from Pacifc University in 2003, focusing on a variety of settings, and began specializing in pediatrics in 2015.  During her time at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, Emily   developed a wealth of knowledge and resources to share with a wide variety of pediatric clients and their families. Emily started Tabor Pediatric PT in 2018 and has since received her specialty certification in pediatric physical therapy (PCS). The PCS is an honor held by fewer than 5 percent of physical therapists in the US.  Emily advocates for treatment of a child’s physical, developmental, emotional and psychosocial well being and includes the family unit in all therapy sessions and decision making. Emily is a Portland native and in her spare time, enjoys adventuring with her husband and two children, competing in triathlons, advocating for living kidney donation and co-chairing The Black Swimming Initiative.

Jennifer Layng

Jennifer Layng is Tabor Pediatric’s virtual office assistant with a heart of gold! She dedicated 13 years to Providence as a Physical Therapist Assistant, working in geriatrics and acute rehab. Now thriving as a virtual assistant, she supports women in their small businesses. Jennifer’s passion for giving back shines through the establishment of the Kerri Foland Scholarship at Mt Hood Community College, honoring her classmate’s memory and benefiting PTAs. When Jennifer is not juggling work commitments, she homeschools her children and indulges in her passion for homesteading.

Building Independence and Confidence

Our goal is to create independence and safety in body movement, no matter what that looks like. We treat children with movement disorders, coordination dysfunction and generalized motor delays. Whether these issues are part of a genetic syndrome or stand alone, we can help!

My 13 year old son and I had a really wonderful, healing experience working with Emily over the past few months. My son developed an ankle injury from skateboarding and Emily went above and beyond to help him find his way back to what he loves the most. I highly recommend her care and expertise.

Providing Care for Infants and Empowering Parents

At Tabor Pediatric Physical Therapy, we treat conditions seen in newborns such as: torticollis, plagiocephaly, developmental delay, neuromuscular and genetic disorders. We believe every child and family is unique, so in that vein each session and plan of care is individually tailored to your needs.

Emily is a knowledgeable, caring physical therapist who has made a huge difference in our daughter's life. The changes we have seen in her movement under Emily's care have been profound. I would highly recommend Tabor Pediatric Physical Therapy.
